December 1989, deserted forests and hills of the Swedish village. A month has passed since the population disappeared overnight, and you have spent this time exploring the bleak open world alone and with friends, keeping to the shadows to find gear and weapons in an attempt to survive. All this time, you've identified the mastermind behind the events that led to the attack, and now it's brought you to Himfjäll. This uncharted island off the east coast may hold more answers, and perhaps something even more valuable - other survivors.
Features
HIMFJÄLL ISLAND
Covered in snow from coast to coast, this once-popular ski resort now stands abandoned to the winds and enemies that roam the area. There's plenty to see and do, however, from the cafes and shops in the small towns that dot Himfjäll, to the ski slopes, caravan parks and dense pine forests that cover the island. Additionally, Björntunet is a key landmark, a once-pleasant ski hotel now used as a safe house. As long as you keep an eye on your surroundings, who knows what you might discover.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE
Himfjäll may be unexplored and very dangerous, but there are also clear signs that there is more information to be found there about the machines and the whole situation. But beyond the easy answers, you have found something infinitely better - a group of survivors who barely survived against the machines. They are the first humans you have come face to face with since that fateful day, and with each other's help, you may still survive this invasion.
MORE ACHIEVEMENTS AND COLLECTIBLES
The new area is covered in collectibles for you to find, from lost voice recorder logs to character biographies. Plus, there are a whole host of new achievements for you to try and complete.
APOCALYPSE CLASS MACHINES
If you're not careful as you make your way around the new island, sooner or later you'll cross paths with what appears to be a new tier of machines. They bear a distinct resemblance to their lighter-armed counterparts, but are deadlier on a level never seen before. Specifically designed by FNIX to hunt down survivors and suppress any humans who try to fight back, the machines wield weapons so vile that they would be banned by the Geneva Convention. From flamethrower-wielding Hunters to biochemical machine gun-wielding Runners, you’ll have to rethink and rework your tactics to defeat these new enemies. Be warned that Estertörn may not be safe either, as these Apocalypse-class machines may have made it to the mainland.
EXPANDED ARSENAL
Your quest for survival will require extensive exploration, and if luck is on your side, you may even stumble upon a new weapon for your arsenal. The KVM 89 Squad Automatic Rifle and KVM 59 Machine Gun can be found while searching around the island, so keep your eyes peeled. With the movement of Apocalypse class machines, there is also a potential chance of finding them on Estertörn.
